NAWABSHAH, Jan 11: The taluka municipal administrations (TMAs) of Daur and Doulatpur have suffered Rs17.8 million losses in violence that followed the assassination of Benazir Bhutto and now their functioning had been suspended.

All the offices of taluka municipal administration including Doulatpur, Qazi Ahmed and Shahpur Jehanian were completely burnt and the buildings were damaged.

The taluka nazim Doulatpur, Jam Iftikhar Unnar, told Dawn that the TMA had assessed losses of Rs12.8 million and the matter had been taken up with the provincial government.

He said the local body’s working was suspended temporarily while alternative arrangements at Qazi Ahmed for office work have been made.

Daur Taluka Municipal Officer Nabi Bux Rind said offices of the taluka nazim, TMO, taluka officer infrastructure, UC nazim, taluka council hall were burnt and a tractor was also set ablaze during the violence.

He said the TMA had sustained Rs5 million losses and its functioning was affected. He said that taluka nazim had reported the matter to the Sindh government for compensation.
