Pakistani journalist beaten

NEW YORK, Oct 22: A Pakistani journalist was beaten severely by some American youths in the Borough of Brooklyn and was admitted to an emergency room of Brooklyn Methodist Hospital with broken ribs and teeth, late on Sunday night.

The New York police have registered a case of hate crime against the assailants.

Freelance journalist Haider Rizvi, who writes for some American papers, told Dawn that while he had been buying cigarettes at a Pakistani grocery store, three American youths had approached him and had asked him if he was from Pakistan.

He said when had said “originally yes” in reply to their question, they had taken him out of the store and had beating him.
