PESHAWAR, Jan 9: Senior lawyer Abdul Bari was shot dead and his son Saqib Bari, also a lawyer, was kidnapped on Wednesday.

Mehar Gul, who identified himself as the lawyers’ domestic employee, told the police that he was accompanying the lawyers when four armed men stopped their car on the Sufaid Dehri Road.

“They forced Saqib Bari into a black car. They did not say why he was being taken.” He said that Mr Saqib’s father was shot in his leg when he tried to resist.

A man living in the same area told this correspondent that the elderly lawyer had died of excessive bleeding, followed by a heart attack.

He suspected that the incident was another case of kidnapping for ransom but the kidnappers had not yet contacted the victim’s family.

The man said that the incident had taken place near a police checkpost, but no action was taken by them.

The Peshawar High Court Bar Association condemned the killing of the senior lawyer and the kidnapping of his son.

The meeting, presided over by PHCBA chief Abdul Latif Afridi, called for immediate arrest of the people involved in the crime.

The PHCBA will hold a protest meeting of its general body on Thursday.
