KARACHI, Jan 9: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that a detailed report for the losses suffered by the citizens during Dec 27 to 31, 2007 in Karachi will be finalized within a few days as already 80 per cent work in this connection has been done by the city government.

He said this while talking to the head of the Commission for Assessment of Losses and Payment of Compensation to people affected by the disturbance, Captain Usman Ali G. Issani, who called on him in his office with members Syed Anwar Haider and Saud A. Mirza on Wednesday.

The city nazim, while expressing concern over the huge damage caused to government and private property in the aftermath of the Dec 27 tragedy, said that for the first time in the history of Karachi more than 20 industrial units, besides thousands of shops and vehicles, were set on fire.

Therefore, the city government has initiated action at public level to find out the correct figure of losses in the city. A special counter has been set up in the City Government Secretariat to collect details of the losses from the affected while the DDOs of the Revenue Department were also receiving claims from citizens under the supervision of EDO Revenue. Besides, the administration in 18 Towns and 178 union councils of Karachi was also collecting such details, and already 80 per cent of the work has been completed. —PPI
