Kandhkot without power for 14 hours

Published January 9, 2008

JACOBABAD, Jan 8: Kashmore, Kandhkot, Tangwani, Ghous Pur, Thull, Jacobabad and the towns and villages adjoining them suffered 14-hour long power breakdown on Tuesday after Wapda authorities imposed load-shedding on the area citing faults in the main supply line of Guddu power station.

But sources in the authority said that the load-shedding had been imposed under instructions from the Power Dispatch Company of Hyderabad, which was faced with power crunch due to less production. Power supply to the area was finally restored at 1:00 pm.

The frustrated customers said that in addition to load-shedding they were very worried about electricity transformers installed near their houses. They usually exploded in rainy season posing serious threats to their families, children and valuable belongings, they said.

They complained that Wapda authorities did not pay any attention to their problem and they were made to bear hundreds of thousands of rupees losses due to their carelessness.
