Mauresmo pulls out

SYDNEY, Jan 6: Amelie Mauresmo’s buildup to this month’s Australian Open suffered a setback on Sunday when she was forced to withdraw from her last warmup event.

The former world number one from France was planning to finish off her preparations at the Sydney International but pulled out with a groin strain.

“It’s very disappointing to me that I won’t be able to compete in the [Sydney International this year],” she said in a statement.

China’s Na Li also pulled out of the Sydney tournament on Sunday because of a knee problem. “The problem with my knee seemed to get a little worse after I tried to practice this morning,” she said.—Reuters
