QUETTA, April 3: The central committee of Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) dismissed the government’s announcement to hold a referendum seeking support for General Pervez Musharraf to stay in president’s office for another five years describing it as unconstitutional and unethical.

The party’s central committee, which met here on Wednesday evening presided over by the senior vice-president, Khuda-i-Noor, said that if Gen Musharraf wanted to continue as president he should adopt the legal and constitutional course.

The meeting agreed to cooperate with the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) in its campaign against the proposed referendum.

The central committee rejected the condition of graduation for national and provincial assemblies candidates and suggested that if this condition was to be retained than the presidential candidate must be a PhD.

The central committee expressed its satisfaction on the de-limitations made by the election commission of Pakistan. However, it felt that the commission had ignored the historical, geographical, and central status of Sibi. The meeting constituted a penal of lawyers comprising M. Zafar, W.N. Kohli, Anwar Durrani, Pervez Ahmed Gola, Sohail Ahmed Rajput and Amanullah Kanrani, to take up with the election commission matter related to de-limitations in Balochistan.
