Canal maintenance plan issued

OKARA, Jan 2: Multan Irrigation Chief Engineer Abdul Hafeez has issued the annual maintenance and cleanliness programme of canals. Lower Bari Doab Canal and Balloki-Sulemanki Link Canal will be closed from Jan 2 to 15th, Upper Canal till 15th, Trimun Sidhnai Link Canal from Jan 7 to Feb 10. Similarly SMB Link Canal will be closed from Jan 8 to Feb 11, and Lower Pakpattan Canal from Jan 9 to Feb 12.

PRAYERS: On the appeal of the Peoples Lawyers Forum (PLF), hundred of lawyers attended funeral prayers and the recitation of the Holy Quarn for the late Benazir Bhutto. Pakistan People’s Party District President Muhammad Ashraf Khan Sohna, PPP candidate for NA-144 Muhammad Arif Chaudhry and PPP candidate for PP-191 Rana Ikram Rabbani, Ch Muhammad Ashraf Sangoka, Rana Abdul Rehman and Izharul Haq Toor also joined the prayers. Advocate Syed Maqbool Hussain Shah led the prayers. The lawyers called her assassination a national loss.

Also the district has returned to normal life gradually recovering from the shock of the sad demise of Pakistan People’s Party Chairperson Benazir Bhutto. Even though the business and life on roads is back, but the tragic death of Ms Bhutto is still talk of the town. Social worker Taya Ishaq Pehlwan, 67, says that in his life he has not seen such moments filled with mass grief as witnessed on the occasion of the murder of Benazir.
