LAHORE, Dec 30: Jamaat-i-Islami naib amir Liaquat Baloch has said that the opposition political parties will not attend any all parties conference (APC) convened by the `ineffective’ caretaker government headed by President Pervez Musharraf.

He was talking to newsmen after return from Naudero, where he condoled with Asif Ali Zardari and other family members of Benazir Bhutto on Sunday.

He said participation in any APC convened by the government under the present circumstances would be tantamount to acceptance of Pervez Musharraf as president and agreement with his policies which had resulted in the crisis prevailing in the country at present.

He said PML-N, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith (MJAH) had already announced boycott of the elections. The PPP, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Asfandyar Wali were also expected to follow suit.

He said the Rawalpindi incident was an attack on the federation. The opposition would not accept any investigation into her assassination by the interior ministry after the contradictory statements issued by it and the government about the tragedy.

Baitullah Mehsud’s denial of the government’s allegations accusing him of involvement in the murder had exposed the government further.

He said the violent reaction being observed in the country after the incident was unfortunate and undesirable.

The violent protests were, in fact, an expression of disapproval against the dictatorial policies of the government.
