ISLAMABAD, April 2: Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Mohammad Younas on Tuesday awarded nine years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and 30 lashes to a teenaged boy for raping a 13-year-old girl in Barakahu village some two years ago.

Mohammad Nadeem, 16, a resident of the village, was booked by the Barakahu police under section 10/3 of the Hudood Ordinance and section 452 of the PPC, on the complaint of Omar Hayat, father of the victim.

BAIL GRANTED: Senior Civil Judge Mohammad Saleem Uppal granted bail to an officer of Excise Department in Attock, who had allegedly opened fire on some labourers for peeping inside his house in Barakahu village.

The police had sought physical remand of the accused, but the court observed that since the two parties were prepared to reach a compromise, it could not be granted.

The same court also remanded Majid Hussain, booked under sections 342,447, 149 and 148 of the PPC, in Barakahu police custody for three days.

CASE ADJOURNED: Civil Judge Sayed Muzaffar Ali Shah on Tuesday adjourned a car-theft case till 18th of next month.

According to the defence counsel, two military officers were extended undue favour by the police.

Raja Imran Aziz advocate, secretary-general of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, appearing on behalf of Sajjad Ahmed, claimed before the court on Tuesday that after his client bought the car from Flt-Lt Zafar Mumtaz, he had been issued a clearance certificate from Rescue 15 and Excise and Taxation Office.

The certificate, he added, verified that the vehicle (IDG- 4509) was genuinely registered and not stolen.

The council said Mr Mumtaz had told his client that he was the first buyer of the car, although, it later transpired that he, too, had bought it from Colonel Rashid Ahmed.

The counsel complained that both the military officers were extended undue favour and their previous ownerships of the vehicle were not brought on record, when police impounded the vehicle and claimed that its was stolen, and owned by an insurance company of Karachi.

The court, while seeking more record and evidence from the two parties, adjourned the hearing.
