KARACHI, Dec 29: The long awaited elections of the Sindh Olympic Association (SOA) take place on Jan 9 when the annual general body meets here at a

local hotel.

Holding the elections is part of a seven-point agenda circulated to affiliated members in addition to the parent body, Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) as well as the Sindh Sports Board (SSB) on Dec 23.

This will be preceded by adjourned special emergent general body meeting at the same venue. Requisitioned on March 27, the meeting could not take place and was postponed due to the 30th National Games.

All affiliated units have been asked to submit the names of two representatives to SOA secretary, Ahmad Ali Rajput, before Jan 7 to attend the aforesaid meetings.

The SOA has a 29-member electoral who will vote to elect office-bearers for a four-year term. They include badminton, body building, boxing, baseball, cycling, canoeing, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, netball, shooting, rowing, skiing, squash, swimming, sailing, table tennis, tennis, taekwon do, tug of war, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.

Besides the election, the meeting, among other things, will confirm the minutes of the previous general body meeting held on June 3 last year, approve the annual activities report (2006-07) and the accounts (2005-07).

The present body which came to power in March 2003 in the quadrennial elections could not hold the polls on completion of the term for one reason or the other.
