People asked to exercise right to vote

Published December 27, 2007

TIMERGARA, Dec 26: The district amir of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl), Lower Dir, Maulana Zahid Khan has appealed to people to cast vote in the forthcoming election, saying it is the basic right of all which every person must exercise.

Addressing a day-long workshop organised by Award, an NGO, in collaboration with an Islamabad-based organisation, Free And Fair Election Network, here on Wednesday, Maulana Zahid said that no political party or other group had the right to deprive the people of their fundamental right to vote.

The workshop was attended by religious leaders and elders of the area.

The JUI leader said that exercising one’s right of franchise was essential to bringing change in society, but unfortunately the masses were not aware of its importance.

He said that boycott was not a solution of the problems though one should struggle for a cause.

He suggested that the government should take steps to create awareness among the masses about the vote.
