Three-day release for Aitzaz

Published December 20, 2007

LAHORE, Dec 19: The Punjab government released Supreme Court Bar Association President and Pakistan People’s Party leader Aitzaz Ahsan for three days on Wednesday night.

Mr Ahsan told Dawn by phone that he had received an order signed by the provincial home secretary for his three-day release, apparently because of Ediul Azha.

“Officials of the Lahore police and the Prison Department have lifted the sub-jail status, and I am free to move till Dec 22,” he said.

Mr Ahsan said he had been put under house arrest till Jan 1, 2008, under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order.
