KARACHI, Dec 15: Chief Justice of the High Court of Sindh, Justice Mohammed Afzal Soomro, on Saturday took oath under the Constitution of Pakistan after the lifting of emergency rule.

He was administered the oath by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad at a ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of the Governor’s House.

The ceremony was attended by caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Abdul Qadir Halepota, besides provincial ministers, provincial secretaries, senior officials and others.

Later, the chief justice administered oath under the constitution to 19 out of the 20 judges of the SHC. Justice Azizullah Memon has gone out of the country to perform Haj.

The judges who took oath under the constitution were Justice Munib Ahmed Khan, Justice Mrs Yasmin Abbasy, Justice Mrs Qaisar Iqbal, Justice Ali Sain Dino Metlo, Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui, Justice Abdul Rehman Faruq Pirzada, Justice Dr Rana Mohammed Shamim, Justice Khawaja Naveed Ahmed, Justice Khalid Ali Z. Qazi, Justice Mehmood Alam Rizvi, Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan, Justice Syed Pir Ali Shah, Justice Bin Yamin, Justice Arshad Noor Khan, Justice Dr Qamaruddin Bohra, Justice Ghulam Dastagir Shahani, Justice Farrukh Zia Sheikh and Justice Abdul Qadir Khan.

The governor congratulated the chief justice and other judges while Chief Secretary Fazlur Rehman, who conducted the swearing-in proceedings, extended felicitations on his and the Sindh government’s behalf.—APP
