16 held, arms seized

KOHAT, March 31: In an operation launched against anti-social elements the Kohat police arrested one proclaimed offender and 15 other criminals from different parts of

the city and seized huge quantity of illegal weapons, a suspicious car, and liquor on Saturday.

The decision to launch the operation was made by the new district police chief, Usman Zikria, in the wake of increased activities, specially kidnapping for ransom, of proclaimed offenders in the area.

The operation supervised by the SSP himself and participated by the SHOs started with a dozen raids in the Jangle Khel city from where one proclaimed offender, Arshad, was arrested.

The police also arrested 15 other criminals allegedly involved in dacoities and extortion of money from the local businessmen.

The police seized three persons from a den and recovered 60 bottles of home-made liquor.

The illegal arms recovered from the possession of criminals included two Kalashnikovs, one Greenkov, two 12 bore rifles, one 7mm rifle, three 30 bore pistols, one 3.3. bore rifle and 300 rounds of different bores.

The SSP, Usman Zikria, while chairing a meeting of police officials in his office said that the police would leave no stone unturned to restore the confidence of the people in the law enforcement agencies and improve the worsening law and order situation as per the orders of the NWFP governor.
