Wapda, Railways in final

LAHORE, Dec 9: Defending champions Wapda, and their close rivals Railways entered the final of the 23rd National Women’s hockey championship, winning their respective semi-finals at the National Hockey Stadium’s outer ground on Sunday.

In the first pre-final, three-goal Azra Nasir helped Wapda beat Lahore 6-0 after leading the first half 2-0.

Azra scored two goals in the first session and added one in the second as the winners went on the offensive from the very start.

Uzma, Sumaira and Aqeela banged home one goal each to complete the tally.

Railways showed no mercy for Faisalabad in completing a 10-0 rout in the second semi-final with Ayesha Bashir contributing six goals. Railways led the first half 6-0.

Tehmina (3) and Irum Bukhari (1) were the other scorers.

A tough final is expected on Monday. Earlier, Lahore will play Faisalabad for the third place.
