KARACHI, Dec 8: Interior Minister Lt-Gen (retd) Hamid Nawaz Khan has said police and rangers personnel will be assigned security duties for the general election and the military will also be available if the civil administration seeks its services.

He was talking to journalists after the passing out parade of recruits of batch-30 of the Pakistan Coast Guards at the PCG Training Centre in Korangi on Saturday.

The minister termed the filing of nomination papers by candidates for the election in Swat a big change in the situation in the troubled district.

He said that on Friday different candidates had submitted their papers in the local Election Commission office and scrutiny of the papers would start on Sunday.

Hamid Nawaz said the civil administration and other departments in Swat were functioning and local people had constituted peace committees.—APP
