PESHAWAR, Dec 7: The City District Government Peshawar has imposed Section 144 on the transportation of sacrificial animals outside the city limits. The order will take effect from Dec 10.

The decision was taken at a meeting held here on Friday. District Nazim Ghulam Ali presided over the meeting which was also attended by nazims of the four towns of Peshawar, district coordination officer, coordination director and town municipal officers.

The participants of the meeting decided that animal markets would not be allowed inside the city limits because it created environmental problems and caused traffic congestion on the main arteries.

“In order to ensure maximum supply of animals with minimum prices, the meeting decided that no tax will be levied on sacrificial animals’ business till Eid,” an official told Dawn.

He said the decisions would also apply to the Cantonment Board which held animal melas every year on the main road from the Bacha Khan Chowk to the Peshawar High Court. The official said animal melas could be held outside the city limits, especially if they did not create problems for the city government.
