RAWALPINDI, Dec 6: A man committed suicide by setting himself ablaze in his employer’s house at Gulzar-i-Quaid on Thursday, police said.

The police said Mohammad Ramzan, 45, took the step because of the financial problems he was facing.

On seeing the flames from his room, the house-owner and his employer Shaukat Bashir and people from neighbouring houses rushed to his rescue but he was burnt critically when the people and the Rescue-1122 team reached the scene of fire.

However, the rescue team extinguished the fire and removed the charred body and shifted it to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). The fire also caused damage to the house and created panic among the residents of the area who gathered around the house on fire.

In an other incident, a man was shot dead by unidentified persons in Gangmandi area on Thursday, police said.

The alleged killers managed to escape from the scene.

ROBBERS STRIKE: In various incidents, robbers took away six vehicles and deprived a man of calling cards and cash worth Rs200,000 in different parts of the twin cities, police said.

Waqar Ahmed, one of the victims, lodged a complain with the Saddar Barooni police that four persons hired his mini truck to go to a village. On reaching near their destination, they forced him at gunpoint to give them the keys of his truck and the cell phone, Mr Ahmed said.

Mohammad Afzal, a salesman, was robbed of calling cards worth Rs180,000 and cash in Shahzad Town area.

He was on the way home when some unidentified robbers intercepted him and deprived him of the valuables.
