HYDERABAD, Dec 6: The senior vice-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party Makhdoom Amin Fahim conceded on Thursday that PPP disagreed with the All-Pakistan Democratic Movement (APDM) over the issue of reinstatement of deposed judges.

Talking to Dawn after holding a press conference at the residence of Syed Ali Mohammad Shah, Fahim said: “The APDM and the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy have formed a team to look into all the issues and they are working on it. I think they will come up with proposals may be today or tomorrow.”

He avoided a direct reply to why his party opposed incorporation of a clause on judges’ reinstatement in the charter of demands, saying “I must wait for the outcome of committee”.

“There is difference between democracy and dictatorship. We are democrats and we can raise any question (agree to or disagree over an issue) and it is not against democracy. There will, however, be a consensus decision (on the issue) based on the opinion of majority,” he said.

Fahim earlier said at the news conference that the present caretaker cabinet was neither neutral nor had it national consensus and his party had demanded that there should be a government of national consensus.

He called for the reconstitution of Election Commission to ensure fair elections and said that if it had been done then all the political parties would take a decision on the issue.

He rejected the notion that the meeting of Turkish President Abdullah Gul and other ambassadors with opposition parties including PPP was interference in the country’s domestic affairs. Turkey and Pakistan had strong brotherly relations, he said.

Fahim said that he personally believed that barring Imran Khan all the political parties would go into elections but he would have no objection if anyone opted for boycott.

He admitted that traditional enthusiasm was missing in electioneering because parties were still undecided over the election boycott and accused outgoing ministers of misuse of official machinery.

He deplored the rejection of candidatures of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif and said they would launch a movement if the elections were rigged.

He demanded suspension of local governments’ powers during elections and alleged that caretaker ministers were campaigning for their relatives.

The party’s decision on tickets and nominees for the reserved seats was final, he stressed.
