LAHORE, Dec 1: A century by opener Agha Sabir helped pool ‘B’ leaders Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) dominate the first day of the eight-round match against Lahore Shalimar in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy championship at the Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.

Agha’s 105 off 164 balls included 20 fours and one six as the national carriers saw off the day with 257-2. Khurram Manzoor (56) and Kamran Sajid (51 not out) also batted well.

Agha Sabir and Khurram provided an opening stand of 116. Later the centurion added 98 runs with Kamran Sajid in the second wicket stand.

Meanwhile at the Multan Cricket Stadium, a four-wicket haul by paceman Kamran Hussain for 35 runs put Habib Bank Limited (HBL), the pool ‘A’ leaders, in control against Multan.

Batting first the home team was 218-8 with Usman Tariq (39) as the top scorer. Fahad Masood earned three wickets for 38 runs.

In other matches, Faisalabad found themselves in a sound position against Karachi Whites, plundering a total of 260-4, at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad.

An unbeaten century by Asif Hussain (108) and half-century by Imran Ahmed (65 not out) steadied the innings, adding 162 runs in their unbroken fifth-wicket stand after a disastrous start of 98-4.

At the Arbab Niaz Stadium, Peshawar, where the match started after an hour’s delay due to overnight rain, Peshawar were 121-5 against Quetta. Fawad Ali (51) was the top scorer as Nazar Hussain took three wickets for 49.

Only 34 overs’ play could be possible at the Jinnah Stadium, Gujranwala, where Sui Southern Gas Company were 92-4 against Sialkot.

An unbeaten knock by Rizwan Ahmed (60) and Jamshed Baig (51) propelled Hyderabad to a healthy total of 277-5 at the Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad.

At the KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi too only 28.1 overs’ play could be held due to the rain as the home team was 66 for no loss against Karachi Blues.
