TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 1: A dacoit was arrested while his six accomplices fled after a two-hour shootout with Chuttiana police in Shorkot city police precincts in Jhang district on Saturday afternoon.

The police said seven dacoits entered the house of Faqir Husain on Saturday morning in Chak 298-GB and fled after snatching jewellery worth Rs300,000, a motorcycle and Rs32,000 in cash.

The Chuttiana police followed the dacoits and spotted them in sugarcane fields near Chak 494-JB.

When the dacoits saw the police, they opened fire. The ensuing shootout continued for around two hours, but no casualty was reported.

The police, however, captured a dacoit who was later identified as Bashir while his accomplices fled. Later, Bashir led the police to seize three stolen motorcycles and other valuables the dacoits had looted in their previous bids.
