PESHAWAR: Fire destroys godowns

Published November 30, 2007

PESHAWAR, Nov 29: A fire on Thursday broke out in cloth godowns in Shaheen Bazaar, old Azar Kali, and destroyed goods worth millions of rupees.

Haji Hidayatullah, the owner of the market, said the fire was caused by a short circuit.

He said the cloths had been stocked in seven godowns. “The fire spread out of control,” he said.

He alleged that the wires supplying power to the market were decades old and traders had repeatedly asked Wapda officials to replace them but no attention was paid to their request.

The fire was extinguished after three hours of hectic efforts by people and fire tenders.
