LAHORE, Nov 28: Mohammad Ali Mian was elected president and Mian Muzaffar Ali and Shafqat Saeed Piracha senior and vice-president, respectively, of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Wednesday.

The elections of chamber office-bearers for the next one-year term took place after the announcement of results of polling for four associate class seats.

Nasir Saeed, Sohail Azhar, Hassan Amjad and Malik Mubashar Ahmed were elected on these seats by securing 1,053, 1,032, 1,035 and 1,009 votes, respectively. All of them belonged to the PIAF-Founders Alliance.

Earlier, Mohammad Ali Mian, Mian Muzaffar Ali, Abrar Ahmad and Muhammad Imran Khan were elected executive committee members for chamber class unopposed out of eight candidates when four withdrew their nomination papers.

Ghulam Sarwar Malik was the only candidate who filed nomination papers for one seat reserved for trade groups in the executive committee and was declared elected unopposed.

Speaking on the occasion, president-elect Muhammad Ali Mian called upon the members to identify difficulties being faced by them due to increase in cost of doing business and give proposals in reducing the same and improving governance.

He said that businesses were faced with tough competition in both domestic and export markets on account of globalisation. The chamber would organise seminars and workshops to enable them to face these challenges.

Newly-elected senior vice-president Mian Muzaffar Ali and vice-president Shafqat Saeed Piracha also pledged to work for the betterment of the business community.
