PESHAWAR, Nov 28: The component parties of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal have resolved the distribution issue of a large number of national and provincial assemblies’ seats in the NWFP.

Of the total 99 general seats in the NWFP Assembly, the parties in the six-party alliance distributed 77 seats among each other while decision on 22 remaining seats had not been taken because of differences, said JI provincial secretary-general Mushtaq Ahmad Khan.

He said the decision on the remaining seats would be taken by the MMA’s supreme council which would meet in Islamabad next week.

The provincial council of the MMA held meetings at the Al Markaz Al-Islami in which formula for distribution of seats was devised.

Under the formula, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (F) would field its candidates for 34 seats whereas Jamaat-i-Islami would feild it candidates for 31 provincial assembly seats. Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (Noorani group), Jamiat Ahle Hadiat (Sajid Mir group) and JUI-S have been allotted tickets for one seat each.

Mr Mushtaq said the provincial council could not reach a consensus for 22 seats of the NWFP Assembly and the matter had been referred to the supreme council.

He said the JI wanted 50 per cent share of the remaining 22 seats.
