PESHAWAR, Nov 28: A massive gridlock took place during peak hours on Wednesday evening on the main University Road near the Customs House reportedly due to damage to a gas pipeline.

Traffic remained suspended for hours causing hardships to commuters. Long queues of vehicles were seen on both lanes of the road.

Officials of the Sui Northern Gas Company said that an eight-inch pipeline had been damaged by heavy construction machinery of the Peshawar Development Authority at 3pm.

The repair work, he said, was in progress which would take at least three more hours.

The officials said the civic agency was assisting the concerned staff.

“Maps of the Sui gas line were given to the contractors and staff members are also available for guidance if required by the civic agency,” he said.

He said that many localities, including Peshawar University, Forest College Colony, Abdara Road, Tahkall and Palosai would be affected by the disruption in gas supply.

Traffic on Bara-Saddar Road also remained suspended and people faced great difficulties.
