PESHAWAR, Nov 27: A large number of journalists attended a three-day protest camp set up by the Khyber Union of Journalists outside the press club here against curbs on the print and electronic media.

The participants, led by KhUJ president Jan Afzal and general secretary Nasir Hussain, wore black armbands and held banners inscribed with slogans against the imposition of a state of emergency and curbs on the media.

Political leaders, lawyers, representatives of social organisations and people from different walks of life visited the camp to express solidarity with the journalist community in its struggle for freedom of the press and judiciary.

PPP’s provincial information secretary Arbab Alamgir Khan, former MNA Abdul Akbar Chitrali, Barrister Masud Kausar and Advocate Musarrat Hilali were among the leaders who visited the camp. They condemned the government for imposing curbs on print and electronic media and blocking news channels.

The participants of the camp chanted slogans against the government and in favour of freedom of the press. They pledged to continue their struggle till the achievement of the goal of freedom of media.
