BANNU, Nov 24: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Saturday that his party would contest the election at any cost and would not leave the field open for the pro-Musharraf coalition.

He was talking to journalists at the sessions courts where he had gone along with party leaders and workers to submit his nomination papers.

Former NWFP chief minister Akram Khan Durrani submitted his papers as covering candidate for Maulana Fazl.

Maulana Fazl said: “The JUI (F) will contest the polls from the platform of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.”

Criticising the All Pakistan Democratic Movement, he said the alliance should prove that it was a trustworthy ally.

He said that he could not trust the promises of Gen Pervez Musharraf as history of all military rulers was filled with hollow promises.

He said that Gen Musharraf had failed to hang up his uniform after the passage of the 17th amendment.

He also criticised PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and said she had crossed all limits to be able gain power.

He said that she had even left Gen Musharraf behind in her somersaults.

He said the MMA was intact because it had yet not achieved the objectives for which it had been formed.
