BAHAWALPUR, Nov 23: Another batch of seven lawyers led by Pakistan Bar Council’s former vice-chairman Abdul Rehman Ansari was released from the Borstal jail here on Friday.

Other members of the group included Syed Muhammed Shah, president of the Lahore Bar Association, Iftikhar Ali Bhatti, LBA VP, Rana Rashid Ahmed, Sajjad Butt, Mumtaz Ahmed Manget and Muhammed Iqbal Bhatti, all from Lahore.

Now only three lawyers — Mian Abdul Quddoos and Muhammed Latif Sira from Lahore and Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui from Rawalpindi — are in the New Central Jail here and the jail officials are hopeful of their release orders shortly.

After his release, Abdul Rehman Ansari addressed the district and high court bars here and the media action committee at local press club to express lawyers’ thanks over their support and hospitality during their confinement in local jails.

On the occasion, Ansari said lawyers’ struggle would continue for the lifting of emergency rule, curbs on print and electronic media and restoration of apex courts judges.—Correspondent
