DERA GHAZI KHAN, Nov 20: Jailed chief of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan, who has been on hunger strike for the last 24 hours, has appealed to civil society and students to join the struggle for the restoration rule of law by holding hunger strike camps.

Mr Khan made this appeal through his lawyer Hashim Sana Baloch, whom he delegated his power of attorney.

A press release issued by Mr Khan states that civil society, students, including his party members, should hold countrywide hunger strike camps to gear up the struggle for the restoration of democracy and reinstatement of the apex judiciary.

He said that he was fighting for the restoration of rule of law in confinement in Dera Ghazi Khan jail.

He said he was ready to sacrifice his life for the noble cause. He disputed the claim of the jail administration regarding the taking breakfast.

He said he would continue hunger strike till the judiciary was reinstated on the Nov 3 status.

Senator Tariq Chaudhry and columnist Haroon Rasheed arrived in DG Khan and tried their best to meet the PTI chief but the jail authorities did not allow them to meet in person. Later, they exchanged slips with Mr Khan.

Senator Chaudhry held a press conference at the DG Khan Press Club and said the Musharraf government would be toppled in a couple of weeks.

Deputy Inspector General of Jails Mian Farooq Nazir also arrived at the district jail to persuade Mr Khan to end hunger strike but the PTI leader turned down his request.
