ISLAMABAD, March 27: Pakistan expressed deep concern on Wednesday over the adoption of the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO) by the Indian Parliament.

“The Government of Pakistan has noted with deep concern the adoption of POTO by the Indian Parliament on March 26, 2002,” a Foreign Office spokesman said here in a statement.

He said over the past few months this draconian law had been ruthlessly used by the BJP-led government to intimidate Muslims in India.

“The selective application of POTO against members of the Muslim community following the anti-Muslim riots in Gujarat and the arrest of JKLF leader Yasin Malik in occupied Kashmir on trumped-up charges, clearly establishes the abusive application of this repressive law,” he said.—APP
