HYDERABAD, Nov 15: The District Coordination Officer Aftab Ahmed Khatri said that the district government was implementing an educational plan to achieve 100 per cent enrolment of children and over 85 per cent literacy rate within seven years in addition to qualitative education in the district.

He said this while presiding over a meeting to review the progress of the plan at his office on Wednesday evening.

Mr Khatri said that District Education Plan, which was being implemented with the collaboration of National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) envisaged five academic objectives, including 100 per cent enrolment of children in schools, reducing dropout rate to “zero” level, availability of qualified and trained teaching staff, capacity building of teachers and developing uniform monitoring mechanism for all educational institutions.

The DCO said that according to a survey, the enrolment ratio has increased up to 50 per cent in Oct 2007, as compared to 27 per cent in Sept 2007, and hoped that same could be increased to 80 per cent by the end of this year.

About dropout rate, the DCO said that the district government has decided periodical recruitment of teachers from the communities concerned to meet the shortage of teachers and open closed schools, especially in the rural areas.
