LAHORE, Nov 14: Around 119 people, including PPP leaders and activists, were sent to the Kot Lakhpat jail on a seven-day judicial remand on Wednesday.

A capital city police official told Dawn that members of the All-Pakistan Minorities Alliance, including MPA Naveed Aamir Jeeva, who were arrested from Defence, were also sent to the same jail.

Police got remand of all these people from anti-terrorism courts.

The Kot Lakhpat jail superintendent was not available to confirm the figure.

PPP’s Yousaf Raza Gilani and Qasim Zia were placed under house arrest after their Defence and Sarwar Road residences were declared sub-jails.

PPP central leader Naveed Chaudhry told Dawn there were reports that Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was arrested by Faisalabad police, had been brought to his residence near Qadhafi Stadium for house arrest.

He said around 48 PPP women, who were earlier sent to the Kot Lakhpat jail on judicial remand, had been shifted to the residences of MNAs Beelum Hasnain, Yasmeen Rahman, Samina Ghurki and Mahreen Anwar Raja, after declaring their houses sub-jails.
