KARACHI: Three lawyers detained

Published November 14, 2007

KARACHI, Nov 13: Three members of the legal fraternity were on Tuesday taken into custody by police under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.

The general secretary of the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Sheikh Munir-ur-Rahman, was arrested on his way back to the bar room from a meeting of the association’s general body.

At least two former presidents of the SHCBA — Abdul Hafeez Lakho and Advocate Akhtar Hussain — were also picked up and detained. The two were active in arranging the general body protest meetings and were both members of the interim committee set up to run the SHCBA affairs.

The general body condemned the arrests and declared that detention orders would not weaken their resolve to agitate against emergency.
