Free trade pact with Malaysia

Published November 13, 2007

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12: Pakistan and Malaysia have signed a comprehensive free-trade agreement in Kuala Lumpur. According to a handout issued on Monday by the ministry of commerce, the agreement is the first bilateral FTA between two member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Conference.

It is Pakistan’s first comprehensive agreement incorporating trade in goods, services, investment and economic cooperation and Malaysia’s first bilateral FTA with any South Asian country.

The handout said the FTA would provide a strong foothold to Pakistan in the Asean region and help achieve summit-level partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
