KARACHI, Nov 12: The stakeholders of the Karachi Fish Harbour discussed the issue of outstanding dues payable to the Fishermen Cooperative Society at a meeting here on Monday.

It is reliably learnt that a number of mole-holders (authorized commission agents) are liable to pay a sum of Rs120 million to the FCS but they fail to clear dues, creating a serious financial problem for the Society.

The commission agents have always blamed the factory owners for late payments, saying that they could not clear the dues unless timely payments are made by the processing units.

A meeting of the stakeholders was called here by the Administrator of the Society, Faqir Mohammad Jadam Mangrio, who is also adviser to the chief minister on fisheries and livestock.

The meeting was attended by the FCS general manager, managing director of the Karachi Fish Harbour Authority and representatives of factory owners and mole-holders.

The new FCS Administrator expressed concern over the slow pace of recovery of FCS dues and stressed upon the stakeholders the need for helping the Society recover dues so that it could carry out its normal administrative and development activities.

The mole-holders apprised the administrator about their grievances pertaining to the delay in payments and held the factory owners responsible for it.
