HYDERABAD, Oct 6: The army district support team is reported to have assured the farmers organization, Rahuki distributory, registered under the SIDA Act 1997, that the tail-enders of Rahuki, Balori minor, would be provided their share of water and no injustice against them would be tolerated.

Talking to Dawn, the secretary, Farmers Organization, Rahuki distributory, M Ayub Burdi, said that he along with the tail-ender growers of Rahuki in Balori had called on an official of the army district support team in his office and briefed him about the prevailing situation.

He said that as far back as 1982, the then martial law administrator and Sindh governor had approved “supplementing Rahuki link ex-Balori minor” to eliminate the water shortage at the Rahuki and Balori minor tail-ends.

He said an amount of Rs2.6 million were released for this scheme. He said that the basic objective of this scheme was to construct the head regulator on RB-995 of the Rohri canal as Balori minor at that time was taking water from Ghotana minor.

He said that a link channel was also to be constructed at the tail-end of the Rahuki canal.

He said the irrigation official constructed the link channel connecting Balori minor with Rahuki but failed to construct the head regulator on Rohri canal as a result of which the tail-ends of both the canals were destroyed.

Burdi said that an official of the army district support team after receiving the briefing, personally visited the Balori link channel and the barren lands and directed the irrigation officials to furnish details about the said scheme within a week.

He also assured the elders of the area that justice would be provided to them.
