KARACHI, Nov 7: Unbeaten centuries by Naumanullah and Rashid Riaz gave National Bank a commanding start against Multan on the first day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship at the Gymkhana Ground in Okara on Wednesday.

Opener Riaz, a 31-year-old right-hander, scored 126 — his maiden first-class century — and Nauman hit 131 in an unbroken second-wicket stand of 247 as the bankers closed at 307-1 after losing the toss.

Quetta’s Shoaib Khan and Naseem Khan also struck unbeaten hundreds as the home side sent Abbottabad on a leather hunt by amassing 355-4 at the Bugti Stadium in Quetta. Shoaib (165) and Naseem (135) put on 255 in their unfinished stand.

A defiant fifth-wicket partnership of 122 between Shoaib Khan (68) and Fahad Iqbal (54) rescued PIA from 72-4 to reach 229 in their first innings after Peshawar chose to field at the Arbab Niaz Stadium.

Devastating bowling by ZTBL skipper Abdul Razzaq (4-38) and Mohammad Khalil (6-45) saw Group ‘B’ leaders Islamabad skittled out for 95 at the Diamond Club Ground where ZTBL went to stumps at 118-5 in reply.

Karachi Whites made a partial recovery to make 242-8 against Sialkot after electing to bat first at the UBL Sports Complex here.

Javed Mansoor marked his first-class debut with 72 not out during which he helped add 67 for the sixth-wicket with Test discard Asim Kamal, who made a welcome return to form with 62.

Paceman Mohammad Wasim was Sialkot’s best bowler with five for 72.

Pakistan Customs’ run of poor form continued on Thursday as Lahore Ravi bowled them out for 112 at the LCCA Ground in Lahore with former international Junaid Zia taking 6-34.
