ATTOCK, Nov 7: Members of district council expressed reservations over the alleged violation of merit in recruitments in police and some district government departments during the session of council, held here on Tuesday with Convener Malik Sameen Khan in the chair.

The nazims of Kamra union council and Shamsabad union council alleged that merit and policy were violated during the recruitments made recently in various departments of the district government.

They said that constables were recruited on the recommendation of ruling party leaders depriving poor candidates of their rights of employment.

Supporting the point, minority members Ayub Mattu and Tahir said that minorities were completely ignored in the recruitments and allocation of development funds.

Another member Rana Shaukat Ali Khan said that furniture and other facilities were not provided to various schools of Attock city despite frequent demands for the last two years.

Government Middle School Attock was upgraded to high level but classes could not be started there so far because of lack of furniture and other required facilities, causing problems for students, he added.

He told the convener that despite clear directive, the Finance and Planning Department executive district office did not produce the audit report and details of expenditure of Attock Festival, 2006 before the house.

Also, he said, another official did not produce the copy of FIR lodged by sports officer of the district regarding stealing of his vehicle despite the convener’s directive.

Burhan union council Nazim Haji Rafaqat complained that his union council was getting the Rs35,000 as monthly grant instead of the sanctioned amount of Rs105,000.

The department concerned is reluctant to address the problem despite the recommendation of the house six months ago, he added.

The convener directed the official concerned to submit a report regarding the issue in next session.

Meanwhile, the house approved proposals regarding up- gradation of schools in various areas of the district, appointment of educators in Kunda union council, two teachers at Government High school Tass in Burhan, recruitment of sanitation workers, honorarium for women councillors and scholarship of Rs10 million for deserving students.

The house also approved 50 per cent concession in the fees of Comsats Institute of Information Technology for students having domicile of the Attock district.

It also recommended that funds of Baitul Maal should be distributed equally among all union councils.

The convener directed the members of the house to make arrangements and ensure maximum participation of people in the public meeting of Punjab chief minister during his visit to Fateh Jhang on November 11.
