BADIN, Nov 7: The taluka council of Badin at its meeting held on Wednesday decided to probe into the collection of Rs2 per maund of paddy as “factory tax” when farmers bring the commodity to rice mills for sale.
The taluka nazim, Mohammad Hashim Jamali, presided over the meeting.
A member of the council, Ghulam Rasool, pointed out that growers had complained about the deduction of Rs2 per maund in the name of “factory tax”.
It was informed that no such tax was imposed by the government and the rice millers should stop such collection immediately, the nazim said.
Meanwhile, the council also decided to take stern action against those contractors who had carried substandard works.
The members Prem Chand, Ather Khoso and others informed that the fire brigade department was also not working properly and required immediate repair work and help. The council approved necessary repair work for the fire brigade vehicles.
Woman Appeals: A woman, Zulekhan Khaskheli, at a press conference here on Wednesday complained that her husband, Sultan Khaskheli, with the connivance of his friends had threatened to kidnap her from her parent’s house as she had decided to take divorce from him.
She accused the husband of torturing and victimising her.
She claimed that he had close association with some bad character people.
The woman said that she had filed an application for divorce in court and took refuge in the house of her parents at Rajo Khanani village.
She alleged two days ago, Sultan arrived at their house with some criminals and threatened her with kidnapping.
She demanded justice and protection.
