MIRPURKHAS, Nov 7: The Sindh government has begun taking legal action against sugar mills failing to start cane crushing effective Nov 1. Cases against 17 out of 28 mills had been lodged in courts.

The Cane Commissioner Sindh Ghulam Akbar Leghari in an interview to Dawn said cases against Khairpur, Ranipur, Abadgar, Ansari, Faran, Tando Mohammad Khan, Mirpurkhas, Mirza, Bawani, Pangrio, Dewan, Seri, Mehran, Matiari, Al-Noor, Sakrand and Al-Habib sugar mills had been lodged.

Case registration process against remaining mills was continuing, he said adding only Sanghar Sugar Mills had begun crushing.

He further said eight sugar mills including Bawani, Dewan (Budho Talpur), Dewan (Khoski), Kiran Sakrand, Seri, Tharparkar and Najma were defaulters and cases against them will also be lodged in concerned courts for their failure to pay outstanding dues to growers.

He said after lodging cases against sugar mills in courts, warrants will be issued against owners.
