HYDERABAD, Nov 4: A woman from Punjab on Sunday sought protection from her close relatives who, according to her, were threatening her and her husband with dire consequences because she had angered them by marrying of her own free will.

Ms Sehrish Anjum, wife of Manzoor Alam, who is from Jhang, told journalists outside the press club that she was an educated woman and had married Mr Alam in Hyderabad on Sept 18.She said that she had informed her parents and police station and senior police officers concerned about the marriage and her parents had no objection to the decision but they were afraid of close relatives.

She alleged that her close relatives including Allah Ditta and Zaman Shah had come to Hyderabad from Jhang to kidnap her. Her parents had not registered any complaint about her kidnapping or otherwise at any police station, she said.

Still, her close relatives were pursuing her and her husband, she said adding she was very happy with her husband.
