MIRPURKHAS, Nov 4: People evicted from the historical Kahu-Jo-Daro area held a demonstration on the Mirpurkhas-Tando Adam road here on Sunday, against the district administration for not providing them alternative place with basic amenities.

They said that they had been assured of four acres of evacuee property land for setting up their huts there.

The protesters led by Mohammad Ismail, Amolakh, Ms Moomal and others raised slogans against the district government and asked them to provide basic facilities and passage to the proposed settlement.

It may be recalled that in compliance with the order of Supreme Court, district government launched an operation to remove encroachments from historical places and the administration issued notice to the encroachers of Kahu-Jo-Daro and later, operation was launched to remove them.

Meanwhile, the encroachers agreed to shift to four acres evacuee lands situated at Tando Adam Mirpurkhas road.

Half of the evicted people were shifted to the land provided to them which was surrounded by the lands of a local landlord.

Zila Nazim Mirpurkhas had announced to pay Rs10,000 per affected family as compensation and alternative land for construction of houses.
