Irfan emerges first day leader : Golf

LAHORE, Nov 2: Irfan Maqbool of the Punjab Golf Association fired a fine net card of seven-under-par-65 to lead the first day of the 24th Governors’ Golf Cup at the Lahore Gymkhana on Friday.

Irfan, a four handicapper, stole the show, as being an amateur he earned a gross score of two-under-par.

Shakeel Ahmed, also a four handicapper, posted a net card of two-under-par-69. One stroke behind were Waleed Zubair (a 14 handicapper) and Qayyum Rasheed (six handicapper). Dr Zahid Khan, a seasoned campaigner was at 71. All the four belonged to the Lahore Gymkhana.

At 72, eight golfers were contending. They are: M Rehman, Asad Khan, Dr Dildar Hussain, Dr Shahbaz Syed, Shahid A. Khan, Rashid Akbar, Hassan Saeed and Nadeem Iftikhar.

Two-day ladies’ competitions will commence from Saturday.
