ISLAMABAD, Nov 1: Pakistan Navy surged ahead of reigning champions Pakistan Army on Thursday with three more gold medals in the 16th National Shooting Championship at Gun Club, Pakistan Sports Complex.

Besides three golds, Navy also grabbed as many silvers and one bronze medal as finals of both individual and team categories of Air Rifle (women) and Centre Fire Pistol (men) were completed during the fourth day of the championship.

The Navy and Army both have a total of 27 medals each after four days of a see-saw battle. Navy, though, boast 14 gold, eight silver and five bronze medals as compared to the tally of 9, 12 and 6, in similar order, of the Army.

Navy’s Urooj Fatima won the gold in the individual category of Air Rifle (Women) with 493 points. The Navy made a clean sweep of medals in this category as Nazish Khan (485.3 points) and Nadia Saeed (479.5) were worthy of silver and bronze medals.

Navy’s Maqbool Hussain lifted the gold in the individual category of Centre Fire Pistol (men) with 570 points while his team-mate Irshad Ali claimed silver with 565 points. Army’s Kabeer won the bronze.

The Navy captured Team Gold of Air Rifle (women) with 1157 points, followed by the Army (1135) and Balochistan (819).

The Team Gold of Centre Fire Pistol (men) went to the Army (1689) with Navy (1683) and PAF (1554) taking silver and bronze medals respectively.

The championship, featuring 22 events, will continue till Sunday.—APP
