KARACHI, Oct 31: A meat-seller was shot dead by two muggers in Sector D-1, Orangi Town, on Wednesday, witnesses and police said.

Area people said Mohammed Anees Qureshi, 25, was intercepted by the muggers at around 2:30pm. He was shot and fatally wounded during a struggle with them, they said, adding that some passers-by intervened and overpowered one of the muggers, later identified as Imran Syed, 22, a resident of Pirabad, and gave him severe thrashing.

They stated that the robbers intended to snatch the victim’s cellphone.

Orangi Town police said the robber was admitted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in a critical condition.

The meat-seller died before he could be shifted to the hospital, where sources said the victim had received a single bullet in his chest. The sources said both the legs of the suspect were broken and he had sustained critical wounds on other parts of body.

The police said that the injured robber identified his accomplice as Ahsaanullah, also a resident of Pirabad.
