MANSEHRA, Oct 29: Police have arrested an impostor for allegedly swindling millions of rupees out of quake survivors. Police said on Monday that Mohammad Jawad was the ringleader of gangsters who would disguise themselves as army men and demand bribes from quake victims.
Jawad was caught red handed by a Pakistan army team, while his accomplices, Tasawar Abbas and Assad, fled.
The gang used to survey the reconstructed houses in quake-hit areas and demand Rs5,000 as bribe from each family on the pretext of getting their houses cleared for compensation.
The fraudulent surveyor team operated in various quake-affected zones, including Shamlain and Battal areas. They got caught when a suspicious quake survivor informed the Union Nazim Sardar Shah Rozeem about the situation, who in turn brought the matter to the notice of the Pakistan army.
