KARACHI, Oct 29: The special judge of anti-corruption court, Syed Gul Munir Shah, on Monday awarded one-year imprisonment to the Station House Officer of Saudabad police, Irshad Inayat Jatoi, in a contempt of court case.

According to the judgment, the district and sessions judge, Malir, Parkash Lal Amwani, had lodged a complaint with the court of special judge, anti-corruption, in Feb 2006 against the SHO concerned.

A complainant, Akhtar Ali, had filed an application to court under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code accusing Mohammad Riaz and others of forcefully occupying his house located in the limits of Saudabad Police Station and the relevant SHO was refusing to register the case against the accused. The court had summoned the SHO concerned and directed him to register the case, but he reportedly tried to dodge the court and did not register the case. The court forced him to register the case, but he did not produce the charge-sheet in court against the accused despite repeated court reminders.

The anti-corruption establishment registered a case under Section 166 of ACE and tried him in the court. The court after a one-year trial awarded him one-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs10,000 and in case of non-payment he would have to undergo an additional three months imprisonment.

The accused soon after his conviction submitted a bail application to court, but the court rejected the bail application and sent him to jail.
