Benazir delays Larkana visit

LARKANA, Oct 24: PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto has delayed a planned visit to her ancestral home because of illness, sources in the party said on Wednesday.

The former prime minister was expected to visit Larkana as early as Wednesday, amid tight security, to pay her respects at the grave of her father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

“She is not feeling well and is staying at her Bilawal House in Karachi.

It is not yet known when she will go to Larkana,” a senior leader of PPP told AFP.

“She has flu and problems with her ears,” local PPP official Khurshid Janjua said.

“She is an iron lady and she will fulfil her commitment but almost certainly she is not visiting Larkana today.”

Larkana police chief Mazhar Ali Shah said police would provide complete security to Ms Bhutto whenever she visited amid continued fears for her safety.

“There are general reports of a threat but not anything specific,” Mr Shah said.—AFP
