Two ASIs, patwari booked for graft

SAHIWAL, Oct 23: The local Anti-Corruption Establishment registered cases against two ASIs and a patwari for taking bribe here on Tuesday.

Reports said that ASI Zahir Abbas had taken Rs60,000 in bribe on June 15, 2005, from Chaudhry Sardar Muhammad of Chak 187/9-L for the arrest of accused involved in a case.

While ASI Mazhar Jamil of Yusafwala police station had taken Rs30,000 in bribe from Sarfraz Javed Sheikh of Chak 74-A/5-L for presenting the challan of his opponents.

Similarly, patwari Muhammad Asghar helped in transfer of 36 kanals of land owned by Naseem Akhtar of Chak 87/9-L in the name of Ali Muhammad. The patwari had demanded Rs110,000 in bribe for the purpose.

On the complaints of Chaudhry Sardar Muhammad, Sarfraz Javed Sheikh and Naseem Akhtar, the ACE registered cases after conducting inquiries against the accused.

REJECTED: A review appeal against death penalty filed on behalf of a condemned prisoner by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) and other organizations was rejected by the Supreme Court.

The Okara district and sessions judge has been asked to issue the black warrant

for prisoner’s execution. — Correspondent
